Our development projects
Ports of Stockholm has a number of development projects ongoing to secure the supply of goods and consolidate Stockholm's position as a world class port and maritime city.
These projects are supported by and documented in Hamnvision 2015, “Hamnstrategiutredningen”, the Ports' strategy evaluation that was ratified by the municipal council in 2006 by wide majority, and the City of Stockholm’s Vision 2030 plan. Permit applications were submitted to the Swedish Environmental Court in 2007 for both the Stockholm-Nynäshamn, Norvikudden project and the Värta project and the recruitment of project managers was completed during 2008.
Värtan
Sweden’s most exciting urban development project is underway in the Värtan area. The project is part of the City of Stockholm’s city development plan, which extends from Hjorthagen in the north to Loudden in the south. The expansion of the Värta pier is one of the first stages of the new urban development in the port area.

A new pier has been built that is long enough to allow the vessels of the future to call and the land area has been expanded to optimise traffic flow at the port.

Stockholm-Nynäshamn, Norvikudden
A modern port for rolling stock and container traffic is being built at Stockholm-Nynäshamn, Norvikudden in the region of Sweden that has most consumption and the highest density of businesses. The new port, with its adjacent business park, will be a boost for the whole Stockholm region and will have positive effects for both companies and residents.

Strömkajen
The Strömkajen quay, with its unique position across from the castle, was constructed at the end of the 1800s. Many passengers depart from here for boat journeys to the archipelago or to other parts of Stockholm. Due to the rise in the height of the land the quay’s foundations are gradually deteriorating. Ports of Stockholm will therefore rebuild the quay and modernise it to meet the demands of the 21st century, in terms of both safety and aesthetics.
